Making Your Mind Your Best Friend

How do you find answers to your deepest questions in life?

First you need to understand your own inner nature and its tendencies. Every night before you go to sleep, make it a point to sit and relax your whole body from head to toe. Then breathe deep breaths and spend some time just observing your natural breathing.

Finally come to a state of just observing your mind. Start this session with a deep question that you wish to find an answer to, and pray you get the answer through this meditative practice.

It may take quite a few days so don’t worry. Let the reply come again and again. Accept the answer only when you see that in that quiet state of mind, the answer has a tendency to be the same on most days. Then that is your natural tendency and you need to flow accordingly.

Don't repeat the words 'i am confused' more and more in your mind. That is a negative energy and it will welcome more and more thoughts that will further baffle you and you will be more confused, not knowing that you invited it all with your thought ‘i am confused'.

The mind remains confused more and more as you go through the process of cleansing that is meditation. As you become more conscious of your mind, the latent tendencies surface and you are baffled, 'Why is all this happening?'
Persevere. That is the WAY.

Keep practicing till you are able to just observe the Mind or your body or your breath without much distraction. This comes out of your long practice.

Learn to surrender to the Higher Power that governs this Universe, nay, trillions of cells in your body. You don't run them, do you? Then if it is run by some incredible intelligence with such perfection, how come you can't surrender to that Divine Power?

Once you learn to surrender the results of everything you do, you will gradually get into the zone of less confusion.

It is your ego that is creating the problem. Know that only ego can be confused. The Soul is Omniscient. There is no tint of confusion there.

Dwell on the thoughts of you being a soul and the purity of it all. Love all that comes into your life moment to moment, recognize them as the priceless gifts from the Divine, and cry in joy.

The Power of Silence is beyond expression. It can only be experienced in the cave of our hearts given to the divine.

Silence is the Gateway to the world of the unknowable.

When those who seek the divine practice meditation and prayerfulness, the desire to talk and talk and talk and thereby prove the existence of one's own self, becomes less and less important. When we talk unnecessarily, which most of us do most often, we waste a lot of our energy. Instead, when we talk less and talk sense, we start conserving our energy that transmutes itself into the power of silence.

When you do not waste your time in passing your judgment and comments about others in the world you are saving yourself from many bad karmas. As you do so, your need to talk lessens and you become introspective and vigilant about your inner thoughts.

As you non-judgmentally keep watching your thoughts, contemplating on the higher values of life, a state of silence descends in your mind. That quietude and beatitude surrounds you. In that meditative state your body and mind are healed beyond comprehension.

First observe outer silence, and then inner silence. Stop unnecessary talks, and unwanted thoughts. You will experience the benediction of silence. Blessed are they who have tested the nectar of divine silence, which is the only way to hear the footsteps of God in the shrine of our hearts.

It is difficult to control your mind because you don't understand your mind. However, when you give more time and attention to your mind during Meditation, you begin to understand the quality of your mind. The mental patterns that you have created for yourself out of your own thoughts and emotions become clearer.

What is needed is not your effort to control your uncontrollable mind, but your effort to befriend your mind. Try to give quality time to your mind. By quality time, I mean time to just observe the thoughts of your mind.

It is because you are trying to control the mind that you become frustrated when your mind slips out of your grip. The more you condemn yourself for your inability to control your mind, the more you fall into the negative channels.

Just rise up to this understanding: you don't have to control your mind but only observe it. This observation creates the miracle that you are longing to see. The mind calms down the moment you start to just observe it.

This observer element is very powerful, for it is engineered by the power of Consciousness. The Light of Consciousness does the miracle of calming the mind, not your controlling ego.

Once you feel this all pervasive calming for a second, it will give you a quantum leap into the world of Consciousness. You experience the Witness within you. You find that the mind is becoming calmer and calmer and Blessing you with the benediction of life.

Whenever there is a major problem, or a deep emotional issue, if the person is not very conscious and aware, then the many thoughts, different emotional feelings and negative brooding can be overwhelming. When the person is gripped by these negative emotions there will be many many voices inside the mind, talking together at random, creating chaos, disorder and disease.

Unconscious mind is split mind. In a state of unmindfulness, you are prone to be a victim of circumstances.

When a person is sandwiched between the past, that is emotionally painful and the future, that is frightfully negative, the present moments are lost in the mist and fog of unconsciousness. Negative thoughts crowd such a mind. At that point a person can be said to be having a "thought attack".

But on the positive side, all these experiences pave the way for entering the world of light and divine grace. When a person prays from their heart with sincerity, Universal Intelligence and Divine Grace descend, inspiring faith, trust and self-confidence.

A new horizon opens up. In the place of disintegration and degeneration comes the fresh breeze of integration and regeneration. Hope and aspiration light up the heart. Now thoughts and emotions become steps towards higher elevation, illumination and self-transformation.

Meditation is the way, prayerfulness is the way, mindfulness is the way, love and compassion are the way, devotion and surrender are the way. Follow any one and you reach the point of tranquility, peace and harmony.
