It is easy to get material experiences, for they are related to your sensual perceptions. If you are eating good food your tongue tells you immediately how great the food is, and the experience is then there.
But spirituality is not something that you are trying to experience through your senses or your restless mind; it is essentially the fragrance of the flower that is your Soul. The bud of spiritual opportunity or your Divine potentiality takes its own natural time to gradually blossom into a beautiful fragrant flower.
Spiritual experience is only for those who have patience and perseverance. It is for those who have a tremendous willpower to pull on in the midst of all opposite forces. The experience comes only when the mind is purified in the fire of worldly tests and tribulations, only when the intellect is distilled by the conscientious endeavor to discriminate between the temporal and the permanent.
Spiritual experience is essentially a transformational experience. You cannot remain the same before and after the experience. Just compare this with all your material experiences of life. You may have diverse emotional, mental, psychological experiences but you remain the same.
Spiritual experience is the revolution of the inner world.
You have to continuously tread the path as shown by your teacher, surrender unconditionally to the divine, do every act as consecration to the divine, and gradually reach a state of non-doership. This may take lives, it may take a few minutes, it all depends upon the preparedness of the soul to realize that there is no individual and that all is universal.
Spirituality dawns with the disappearance of the darkness of unconsciousness, unawareness which is born of ego. Once you realize this reality, you will not hastily ask for experiences, but will enjoy every bit of the journey, every bit of the practice to rise above your ego and its temporal demands. For a true seeker of spirituality, every bit of the practice with all its failures and successes are true experiences toward higher light. Nothing goes to waste when you practice with sincerity.
Enjoy the journey. Don't ask. Give. Don't put conditions on anything and waste energy on expectations. Rather un-condition yourself, empty yourself and the Cup of Life will be Full without you even knowing!!
