If you feel hurt by someone you thought was your friend, know that the hurt is really in your imagination. Your best friend is not outside of you, it is within you. The best friend you have is your own focused and illuminated mind.
So long as you are groping in the dark alleys of your unconscious mind, you will cling to externals, to utopias that cannot last. Life is trying to reveal a deeper truth to you. Whenever you find yourself nurturing a sense of injury, look more deeply within. Discovering that you have your best friend within will allow you to move beyond superficialities. Accept and be grateful for the lesson and reminder.
Forgiving comes from your deep understanding. The Universe forgives you all the time for your own innumerable mistakes, whether you commit them knowingly or unknowingly. You trample over many living insects and creatures without feeling their pain. You hurt people, often without having the slightest idea of the impact of your actions, your attitudes, your words, or your own ego. In spite of this, the Universe allows you infinite chances to improve, to scale the heights of conscious awareness, so that you can discover and experience true joy in life.
It is always in the present moment, when you are bathed in divine grace and light, that forgiveness flows. It arises from the deep awareness of your need to simply let go of all sense of injury. It comes from realizing the truth of the lessons life is revealing to you. Realize that you have so much more in your life. Your sense of injury will naturally dissolve into your more expansive awareness. So, without the slightest concern, forgive and move on to higher things.
